Research has shown that the biggest indicator of success in therapy is the therapeutic relationship. This is very important to me and something I value. Coming to counselling isn't always stressful and intimidating; sometimes it can be fun!
I offer free consultations to see if this is something you feel would be a good fit.
Before attending your first session I will ask you to complete a consent form online.
My counselling sessions are 60 or 90 minutes in length.
During this first meeting, I will talk about confidentiality, gather some demographic information, review policies, and go over your parenting/individual concerns. After that we will make some goals together that will guide our work moving forward.
I understand that it can feel awkward sharing your life story with a stranger, so we will work at your pace and comfort level. This session is focused on you/your child and whatever you feel comfortable sharing.
Bringing in your child for the first time can feel intimidating. I believe that children exist within the context of the relationships in their lives; therefore, I often invite the parent(s) or caregivers to be part of the process.
This can look different for each family. For some parents bringing in their child and having a pre and post check in per session is sufficient. For others, they may want to split the session half and half. This can be discussed and modified as we go. For most parents, bringing in their child to see me with a check in prior to the session and then having the occasional parent only session can significantly benefit their child and family.
Here is a list of therapies, mental health treatment types, and session types that I offer:
I offer both face-to-face sessions in southeast Calgary and virtual sessions (online therapy) to all.
My experience working with young children (especially during the pandemic) is that they benefit more from being in person when talking about their feelings.
Many adult clients report that virtual sessions provide convenience and increased flexibility. Online therapy or online counselling, can be very rewarding and successful as you are in your own home.

That being said, it is difficult to provide services to my other clients when I do not have a reasonable amount of time to reschedule.
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy in place for you to cancel/reschedule your appointment.
You will incur a full session charge for no-shows.

An RCSW is a Registered Clinical Social Worker. This "clinical" designation means I have been certified by the Alberta Social Work Board (ASWB) to provide specialized therapy and counselling services.
